Gourd Bottle - 57108

Plant grows like a vine and requires staking. It has long, green cylindrical fruit that grow around 30-40cm in length. The flavour is mild; similar to summer squash and cucumber. “Lauki” is made from Bottle Gourd - a light tomato based curry with “Koftas". Bottle Gourd is used frequently in Indian cuisine.

They have attractive grey-green foliage and also the capacity to fix nitrogen. Unlike many crops Chickpeas appear to germinate more readily on roughly cultivated soil. We are constantly looking for interesting and sought after vegetables to enhance our catalogue selection. Where possible we like to try to grow out the product so we have some idea on whether it is likely to perform OK. This hasn't been the case with Chickpeas (we haven't attempted to grow these so far) but they certainly look like an interesting crop. It appears they are a bit on the tender side but can possibly withstand a very light frost. In hotter climates they are grown for the dried pea-like seeds. These are used for both sprouting and making into hummus. In damper climates Chickpeas can be harvested green, like petit pois (very small green pea.) When harvested green they taste somewhere in between a fresh raw French bean and a garden pea.

Chicken Foraging Mix - 58740

Those of you that keep chooks can testify to the fact that they have great personalities. Most people treat them as part of the family and want to keep them happy, and so do we, so we've put together a variety of greens that will provide beneficial nutrients for them. This pack can be sown almost all year, giving the chooks a great selection of plants to scratch happily around in. Seeds should be scattered thinly in areas where they forage - ideally you would fence off a couple of different areas, so that while one is growing the other can be grazed upon. Allow approx 2-3g seed per m² - you can mix this with sand, fine soil or vermiculite to help spread it evenly. Keep the chickens off the area until plants are well established and have reached a height of approx 8 - 10cm. After initial grazing move the chickens to the next area, allowing the plants to reshoot. 50g should cover an area of approx 17 - 25 m²
